Tissue expansion in the treatment of giant congenital melanocytic nevi of the upper extremity

چکیده
The aim of our study was to use tissue expansion for the treatment of giant congenital melanocytic nevi of the upper extremity and examine potential advantages over traditional techniques. There were 3 stages in the treatment of giant congenital melanocytic nevi of the upper extremities using tissue expansion: first, the expander was inserted into the subcutaneous pocket; second, the expander was removed, lesions were excised, and the wound of the upper extremity was placed into the pocket to delay healing; third, the residual lesion was excised and the pedicle was removed. The pedicle flap was then unfolded to resurface the wound.During the period between June 2007 and December 2015, there were 11 patients with giant congenital melanocytic nevi of the upper extremities who underwent reconstruction at our department with skin expansion. Few complications were noted in each stage of treatment. The functional and aesthetic results were observed and discussed in this study.Optimal aesthetic and functional results were obtained using tissue expansion to reconstruct the upper extremities due to the giant congenital melanocytic nevi.

Surgical management of large and giant congenital pigmented nevi of the lower extremity.
BACKGROUND The surgical treatment of large and giant congenital pigmented nevi of the lower extremity is a challenging endeavor with limited reconstructive options. METHODS Fifty large (>10 cm) and giant (>20 cm) congenital pigmented nevi of the lower extremity treated by the senior author (B.S.B.) over a 25-year period were reviewed. All of these nevi were too large for serial excision or di...

Background Congenital melanocytic nevi (CMN) are nevomelanocytic nevi which are present at birth. In this study, we set out to determine the clinical and dermoscopic properties of CMN. Methods A total of 239 lesions were diagnosed as CMN. Dermoscopic properties were noted. Age, sex, nevus location and nevus size of the patients were also collected from the patient records. Results A total of 23...
متن کاملSerial Tissue Expansion at the Same Site in Pediatric Patients: Is the Subsequent Expansion Faster?
BACKGROUND Serial tissue expansion is performed to remove giant congenital melanocytic nevi. However, there have been no studies comparing the expansion rate between the subsequent and preceding expansions. In this study, we analyzed the rate of expansion in accordance with the number of surgeries, expander location, expander size, and sex. METHODS A retrospective analysis was performed in pe...

We present a 6-month-old male patient, who was consulted with dermatologist by his parents, because of a pigmented lesion, present since birth, covering almost the all skin of the back and buttocks. A sharply bordered, unequally coloured congenital pigmented nevus, measuring approximately 21 cm in diameter was observed in the whole body skin examination. The lesion was affecting the lower 2/3 o...
متن کاملGiant Congenital Melanocytic Nevi: An Update and Emerging Therapies
Giant congenital melanocytic nevi (GCMN) are a rare occurrence. Gain-of-function mutation in the NRAS gene is found to be associated with GCMN, causing abnormal proliferation of embryonic melanoblasts. The two major complications associated with GCMN are malignant melanoma and neurocutaneous melanosis. Treatment of GCMN has conventionally been surgical. However, the role of NRAS inhibitors and ...
